A Performance Beginner's Shoe: Scarpa Origin VS

The Scarpa Origin VS gives a contrasting set of features, with a flat, forgiving and neutral last that's designed to fit pretty much everyone alongside super sticky rubber, and some features you might not expect from a beginner shoe, such as an M50 rubber toe patch, which is increasingly useful for people climbing indoors.

    Well I bought a pair of these in 0.5 size down and they were way to small, I just gave up on them and threw them away. The low toebox in combination with a heel that aggressively pushes the foot forward creates an impossible shape. A total scam. Its only fit is in a garbage can.

    • @ukclimbingofficial
      @ukclimbingofficial День назад

      We always recommend trying before you buy for this reason, because everyone’s foot shape is different and what works for one person won’t work for the next. Instead of throwing them away why not return them?

      @@ukclimbingofficial Well I wear EU42 in street shoes and my mondopoint is meassured to 265mm and with fully crimped toes it is 254mm. The Viper S size 41.5 is recommended for mondopoint 265mm, but it meassured 233mm inside length. So regardless of shape it is too short even if I cut of my toes. Size EU44 is 253mm inside length and might fit, but that is too late now. That means upsize 2 EU sizes from street shoe, not downsize 1-1.5 as is the general recommendation.

      I don’t think you can fit climbing shoes by numbers, or at least not those numbers. It’s best to have a qualitative approach (ie try them on, see how they fit/feel) as opposed to a quantitative one.

    • @ukclimbingofficial
      @ukclimbingofficial 9 дней назад

      Good question and one we deliberated raising within the video, but decided not to. In short I’d say that the Veloce Lace is more performance oriented than the Origin VS, whereas the Origin VS has more of a focus on having a relaxed, comfortable fit. Where it gets complex is that the Veloce Lace is also really comfy (and quite relaxed) and the Origin VS also performs really well. Basically they’re similar, but different. I think the closure on the Veloce Lace allows a more precise fit/feel, which perhaps gives it the edge, whereas the single strap on the Origin adds to that nice, relaxed vibe that it’s got going on. Both great shoes!!

      @ukclimbingofficial Месяц назад

      They're very, very different shoes, so it'd be a bit like comparing apples and pears. The Vapor S is flat, wide and relatively low volume. It's designed primarily for more recreational use, as opposed to outright performance, although it does - in my opinion - perform incredibly well too. The Satori, in comparison, is downturned, medium width and has a high volume asymmetric toe box that's designed to be worn as tight as you can possibly get them. Performance-wise it's intended for the very top end and as I said within the video - they're quite an uncompromising shoe. In short, they're very, very different and which you use would largely depend on what you're after.
